The Trap
(1979), one of the most personal Różewicz’s plays, is based on Franz Kafka’s biography, whose life inspired Różewicz many times (i.e. in A Glutton Walks Away). This play about an artist, who falls into a trap of his own talent, family and history is at the same time a story about time that runs differently for each character.“Freud, eroticism and doctor Kafka – that makes a logic combination. Over our dreams hangs bourgeois, art nouveau Vienna, the world of solid ideals and even more solid furniture. The world that has vanished”. (Janusz Majcherek, Różewicz and the Trap, “Dialog” 7/ 1983)
